Objectives and Strategies

Two Main Objectives - Daily Focus for Success

1.  Assist Organizations/Individuals Adapt to Change and Monitor Risk

2.  Assist Organizations/Individuals Improve Moments and Experiences

Strategies to Assist in Accomplishing these Objectives

1.  Get into an Approach - Avoid Mindset using Detached Observation

Throughout this site and in our work, you will continuously see "DO" next to text, charts, and maps.  This indicates using a Detached Observation on the topic being discussed.  Human perception is limited - a strategy to counter this is to expand outside thinking outside this limited perception using a detached viewpoint.  This increases ideas and helps organizations and individuals understand the world better.

2.  Map Approach/Avoid Perceptions, Words, and Decisions

We provide Free content here at this site along with a link to two separate Base Boards on Miro (Link and description below):

  Approach-Avoid Moments and Experiences Board

                   >  Explore ideas to improve moments and experiences from this Free board.  We have map templates that you can copy and use.  Learn more about the 7Starters and why we feel just using this alone will improve moments and experiences.

         Approach-Avoid Change and Risk Board

                   >  Explore how your organization can map change and risk by viewing our Change and Risk Board.  We have an updated map that covers the areas in our Adapting to Change section.  These categories include Energy, Economy, Resources, Environment, Knowledge, Technology, and Global Village.

Let's Get Started

Approach - Avoid Mindset

Like all other species on planet Earth, we spend all day, every day approaching and avoiding.

To survive, all animals, ranging from amoeba to humans, must approach and avoid certain situations, objects, and possibilities. (1)

All organisms are hard-wired or preprogrammed to make immediate approach-avoidance responses to particular inputs/stimuli. (1)

>  (1) Handbook of Approach Avoid

Every person (potential and current customer/employee - individual) is in constant action of approaching/avoiding.  The actions taken by all individuals (decisions made of approaching vs avoiding inputs) form human history.  For organizations, the actions taken by potential and current customers/employees form the history of that organization.  And each individuals actions over a lifetime form their own personal story and history.

Since these approach or avoid decisions are so important, we want to get into the mindset of this fact as we explore adapting to change and mapping experiences.

Mapping:  In our first section, we will introduce mapping and why it will be beneficial to use it (and if you already are mapping customer and employee experiences, consider using some of the approach-avoid concepts here to improve your current mapping)

Experiences:  In our second section, we begin with the 7Starters.  These are seven areas that form the building blocks of our touchpoint and experience mapping as we explore what drives individual approach-avoid actions.

Adapting to Change:  In our third section, we explore a few big picture topics that impact organization and individual approach-avoid decisions.  We share how we are monitoring these societal risks.  Each organization and individual has their own important changes and risks to monitor for adapting to change.  These can be explored on individual maps.

Detached Observation

Getting outside perception to "see" more

Along with an Approach-Avoid Mindset, we also add Detached Observation as a way to provide more scope of understanding.  Detached brings the self-awareness that each individual has their life experiences that play a role in their approach-avoid decisions.

Taking a wider view of society also helps in better understanding global, national, and organization approach-avoid decisions.

To explore this concept, throughout this site you will see this:

DO:

This means we are making a Detached Observation for the topic being discussed.
